Mexipino was showered with love this past weekend at our first baby shower in Chicago. Nestled in the old McDonald’s headquarters campus was the Hyatt Lodge which has a hidden gem of beautiful nature views. 25 of some close family and friends came by, 3 fun games, 2 excited parents to be and 1 baby to be surely loved on. It was a beautiful shower, thrown by my mom with tremendous help of my cousin. It was a testimony of how love truly makes the world go round.
Our theme was fall inspired! Pumpkins and fresh fall floral with baby hints all over the place. My mom made milkshakes out of baby blankets & flowers out of wash clothes. I even helped out by making pumpkin vases for fresh mums and spray roses, and baby pumpkins with pacifiers for the centerpieces. I also accented my beautiful pumpkin cake with chalkboard signs with “fall puns”: Falling in love with Baby Salinas, Cutest Pumpkin in the Patch, Oh my Gourd! Look at that Bump! & A Lil Pumpkin is on the way. My mom also made the cutest favors: small wine bottles with a nipple on top and Hershey candy bars with “He” colored in with blue and “She” colored in pink!
I had a vision for my pumpkin cake, inspired by Pinterest. After asking three bakeries, I finally found one who could re-create my vision while making it delicious as well! I found a small business in Lombard called Scrumptious by Hira who created my vision perfectly! It was a pumpkin shaped cake, with a sleeping baby on top. Then vanilla cupcakes below. The pumpkin cake was chocolate flavored with cookies and creme filling! Simply scrumptious! I recommend her to anyone needing a cake or a beautiful display of desserts for their party! She is super pleasant and professional! I also fell in love with her story. She is a single mother with a passion for baking. That on top of my big heart for small business owners, I knew she was someone who could make my baby shower dreams come true! (I linked her website below the pictures, check out her story!)
It wouldn’t have been a baby shower without some fun games! My cousin had some super creative games planned which I thought were really cute! A fill in the blank nursery rhyme, the price is right on popular baby items, and gift bingo! The gift bingo was fun, I think that keeps everyone involved. Plus, winning prizes is always exciting!
I was overwhelmed with all the love my family and friends had showered my little family. I’m so excited for my mommy journey to begin.

I’m so tired! I’m literally turning in around 9pm.
I’ve gotten a lot of comments by people who say I “hide my bump well.” It confuses me because, I don’t want to hide it! I love showing it off!
Some people can’t tell I’m pregnant and I’m 31 weeks! It must be my scrubs.
At my past OB appointment (that are now every 2 weeks), my doctor said the head is down and his/her butt is right under my breast bone.
Baby is getting super active to the point where it actually startles me and sometimes hurts. This one time, I literally felt an arm punch to my left while a leg punched to my right. It was not pleasant.
It’s actually getting really hard to stand up from a low chair. My hips get so tight!
I also started playing some Baby Einstein music on my phone. I figured if he/she hears it now, it will sound familiar when it comes to sleep training.
I also sometimes wake up to horrible charlie horses, sometimes in BOTH legs. I guess it’s super helpful to be sleeping next to a physical therapist! Nonetheless, I’ve been eating bananas before bed.
We started painting our nursery! Wasn’t sure if it is safe to paint, but I did the edges just to say I had a part of it. Then I set up camp across the hallway to supervise my husband.
We are also on the hunt for some day cares. I thought I would be a stay at home mommy to dodge this bullet, but I love my job and the extra cash for me to shop for my little pumpkin and myself (and I guess to pay off our mortgage) is really nice. I’ll still be working part time while Steve will be full time, we will just need a place for 2 days a week. So if you’re in Hamilton County and LOVE your daycare, please contact me.
