“Sweatpants are all that fit me right now.”
I never knew I could be so tired…
Last week after our photoshoot, I started to develop a cold which escalated over the weekend. Congestion, sore throat, fatigue, malaise…I busted open one of our baby shower gifts (our elephant humidifer) because my poor sinuses needed it! At one point I was afraid I had strep, but like always, I was over reacting.
I’m finally feeling better and thankful that it was simply…just a cold.
In other news…
We had our tour of the labor and delivery unit, where we will be delivering at, and it definitely calmed some nerves but stung a few more nerves. You’d think being a former L&D nurse I’d be well prepared, but in all honestly…I have no idea what it is like on the patient’s side. Sure I’ll be glued to the monitor and doing interventions independently as much as I can, maybe angering my nurse…but I probably can’t help it! BUT…I’m just as afraid as any new mother to be of the experience.
Our nurse navigator, Trish, walked us from the beginning. What to do if my OB sends us there or if I go there spontaneously in labor. We were introduced to the organized labor rooms and options to help labor progress. The wonderful nurses ONE of whom I used to work with! (Hi Emily!) The mother baby unit is just as amazing. I think their rainfall shower heads amazed me! (I literally thought the resources they offer for the whole family is better than some hotels I have ever stayed at!) Plus, they have a lounge with warm chocolate chip cookies!?!? I was truly impressed! Trish was absolutely wonderful preparing us for what to expect, what to pack, and what we really need to focus on. She gave us important information and we even started some paperwork to finish so we don’t have to hustle around with it during our hospital stay. (Can you believe I’m already registered for my stay?!) We went over a few things that I haven’t even thought about asking my hubby about his thoughts…such as circumcision (if Mexipino is a boy), his/her first vaccine, visitors…etc. Thankfully, we were on the same page. (And trust me, we’re not always on the same page…marriage, right?)
I don’t know if your hospital offers tours of the labor and delivery unit or if your hospital has nurse navigators, but I highly recommend planning for it. Like I said, it calmed my nerves but I have to say it made me really anxious of the delivery portion…you know, the part that is out of your control.
They even offer nitrous oxide for pain relief! I had it in the dentist office before but I’m unsure if it did me any good. Nitrous oxide is an anaesthetic gas that has a fast half life (leaves your system almost immediately.) It is actually more commonly used in Europe but not so much here in the States. I’m not opposed to using it, but I think it would be great for mamas who are against epidurals.
New project coming up is packing my hospital bag…

I started doing kick counts at night just to get more acquainted with Mexipino’s movements. I know he/she is an active little one but I feel like I need to document the movements. You need at least 10 kicks in 2 hours.
Not only is Mexipino a mover and a groover…Mexipino gets the hiccups in the morning and at night. Is there a point where having too many hiccups a bad thing?
Sleeping at night has become so uncomfortable. I’m not sure if it is because I was so sick, but I just can’t get into a comfortable position. I don’t think my snoogle is working anymore!
Finger joints still feel occasionally achy, especially in the morning. I changed prenatal vitamins and I don’t know if it’s because of the new PNV or because I’m getting over my cold but I feel more energy. There is more Vitamin D in this new PNV.
I think Mexipino has found new real estate in my hips because sometimes I’ll feel heavy jabs in my hips. It feels so weird.
I’m experiencing some shortness of breath here and there due to my uterus pushing up and an itchy belly. And I’m trying to not scratch!
I’ve been looking for teas to drink but it seems like everything on google says any tea has restrictions. Sometimes I think coffee is just easier…in the mean time, I’ve been drinking hot chocolate at work.
With fall comes knee high boots! They look so cute on, especially with my bump but I need assistance taking them off. Hubby to the rescue!
Yes the bump, although cute and round, gets in the way. Pushing chairs, can’t bend to put shoes on and off, standing up, etc…I’m now realizing I can’t squeeze in small spaces like I used to…I learned the hard way when I squeezed myself behind an examination table to change the paper and literally had to CRAWL out. Not my finest moment…
We should be seeing our full gallery of our maternity photos soon! I can’t wait to share those with you all!
