Self-care during pregnancy is an important aspect during this new journey. Every day I try to find the silver lining at the end of my day. There is so much going on in the world that I can either fixate on the good or the bad. Now that I have another life to take care of, I’ve been focusing on the good. Not only because it refocuses my mood but it changes my over all perspective of life. When you replenish your soul, it allows you to serve others. It’s not easy being optimistic, but trying every day can make the slightest difference.
I was always told “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” Before influencing others, you need to be confident in yourself. How can you serve others when you yourself are an empty vessel? Self-care is not only important for now but also when the baby comes. Once the baby arrives, I’m sure my world will be turned upside down. I know I will be sacrificing every last bit of my soul to my baby that there will be nothing left for me. I know I have to prioritize a little time just for me, just to keep myself sane.
For example, my favorite activity is shopping. With my new bump, I love looking for new clothes to show it off! Not only that, but I love finding ways to save money! If bargain shopping was a sport, I’m sure I’d earn a spot on the podium! I love dressing up and going out with my husband on a date. Something as simple as that can make my soul so happy!
Dress: Velvet Maternity Dresses
The above dress that I’m wearing was gifted to me from PinkBlush! It’s a floral, velvet dress that is knee length. I know what you’re thinking…velvet in the summer? It didn’t make me feel any warmer than it was outside. It’s actually a great transition piece into fall! Plus, velvet absorbs water without leaving a mark. And my favorite part…now that my bump has appeared, it makes rubbing my belly extra luxurious since velvet feels so soft! Click on the links above to shop their beautiful dresses!
So how can you start practicing self-care? I’ve rounded up a few of my own as well as other tips that you can start mastering!

- Take a Nap – You need it and don’t convince yourself you don’t. You’re carrying a baby and that is asking a lot from your body! Even if it is a quick snooze, a little bit of shut eye will help you feel rested and get mentally recharged.
- Read a Book – Take a break from Netflix and get a library card! Google some of the best sellers or check out Target’s Book Club! I also have a list of recommendations if you’re interested! It’s nice to escape into a different world every now and then! Plus, I love the satisfaction of turning a page!
- Take a Walk/Yoga – Doing something simple as taking a walk can release your stress. Also, yoga teaches you some great breathing techniques that you can use during labor! The simple act of breathing in and out can do so much for a busy lifestyle!
- Go out to dinner with your spouse/friends – Something about dressing up and putting makeup on can boost your confidence by one million. And, with a new bump, there are some dress styles that look amazing. Uh hem, did you see my dress above? Slay. Now is the best time to try something new and experiment with new textiles!
- Get a manicure/pedicure – There is something so relaxing about getting pampered and something about being so “put together” when your nails are done. I always feel like a million bucks when my nails are done.
- Call a friend – Call up one of your close friends and catch up! Opening lines of communication is a stress reliever, especially when you haven’t spoken in a while!
- Listen to music – Especially the uplifting kind can influence your mind! Whether you are driving around, cleaning the house, or just trying to relax, music can awaken your soul and make you feel so much better!
- Go to church/Join a church group – You may be amazed how mentally recharging going to a church service can be. I love our new church and the community around it. Our pastor really knows how to bring the Bible to life. Research if your church has groups to join to get to know people, maybe they can connect you to other women who are pregnant or new moms! Or perhaps religion is not your thing, and that’s okay! Join a community group that is targeted to new mamas!
