I remember the first few weeks after delivery, I was nothing but a blank slate of slop. 9 days postpartum I actually dressed up and put makeup and went to a wedding! Other than that, I wore the same clothes almost every day, maybe showered twice a week, and I would be lucky if I at least put eye liner on or curled my lashes. I just didn’t have the time or the effort. I was exhausted! This mommy thing is WORK!
Once Isla and I started to get into a rhythm with each other, it was easier for me to start taking care of myself. Isn’t that sad to say? While I was awake during my middle of the night pumps, I would watch Youtube videos of “easy hair styles” or “fast makeup techniques.” Time is literally dependent around feeding, pumping, and Isla’s mood. So when I have time to myself, I need to make the most of it. Having a portable pump, makes all the difference!
So when I finally got back in the saddle, I discovered products that were literally game changers. Where have these items been all my life? I have shaved time off without sacrificing style and beauty. Not even that, items that have helped me run errands or do anything without missing a beat!
Revlon One Step Hair Dryer & Volumizing Styler
This will be the best $60 you will ever spend. It is what it says it is. A hair dryer and styler in one. My hair looks like a blow out every time I use this bad girl. After I shower, I’ll put some heat protectant oil on and wait until my hair is damp as opposed to wet. It’s easier to style when it’s slightly dry. Then I’ll brush and dry my hair exactly how I want it. Better than trying to use your round brush and hair dryer. I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone, especially any mama who is on the go!
Beautycounter Flawless in Five & Makeup Remover Wipes
I don’t have time to sit and paint my face. I maybe have 5 minutes, if not 3, to get ready and take care of Isla…and my husband. That’s why I love the Flawless in Five makeup kit from Beautycounter. It comes with a foundation, concealer pen, eye brown pencil or gel, blush, lip gloss, and mascara. All customized to your skin color. I will also use eyeliner as well. This little group of makeup goodies are perfect for a clean, fresh look. And it doesn’t take long to apply! I currently use the Honest mascara which is just as great as our Beautycounter mascaras!
Plus, I love their makeup remover wipes. Especially at night when I’m so tired, I don’t have time to scrub my face. One swipe with one their wipes and my makeup is off, and my skin feels great.
Tervis Stainless Steel Waterbottle
Since I’m exclusively pumping, I’m constantly thirsty. Literally, the moment I start I have this overwhelming sense of thirst like I will die without water. I love this Water Bottle because it’s stainless steel (better than plastic), keeps cold drinks cold, and hot drinks hot. Perfect!
Hands-free pumping Bra
I’m on the go, constantly. I’m always doing something at home, whether it’s cleaning or laundry, even feeding Isla. So it was a no-brainer that I needed a bra to help me out while I get some work done. Especially as an exclusive pumper! Even at work, I will pump and get tasks done at the computer. I’ll even call patients, I’m not sure if they can hear my pump but no one has said anything yet!
Sarah Wells Wet/Dry Bag with Staging Mat
I love this bag. This is where I keep my pump parts during work and where I place my parts while pumping. What is neat is the staging mat that comes included with this bag. I don’t have to worry about making a mess at my desk at work. Insider tip: instead of cleaning your parts after every pump, you can place them in the refrigerator between pumps. That’s what I do at work and it’s nicely disclosed in this bag!
Itzy Ritzy Boss Backpack
I’ve mentioned my diaper bag before, but I love this backpack because it holds all the essentials for Isla and I. Plus, my hubby loves it and doesn’t mind donning it around town! It has a side pocket close to my back where I put my wristlet so I have easy access to grab the important stuff, a side insulated pocket for a bottle, and a huge pocket in front where I put emergency items such as the burp cloth and wubbanub. It’s also made from high quality material with a rubber bottom, so you can feel at ease placing it on the ground. Super easy to clean as well! I’m an over packer, too. Because I always have to be prepared.
