The Summer Games is finally upon us and it wouldn’t be the Olympics without the iconic torch!
Now, the opening ceremonies have a special place in my heart. Whether it’s summer or winter games because it was something my mom made a big deal about. When I was little, we’d eat dinner then watch it on the big TV in our basement! Something about the big celebration the world comes together for, the beautiful colors, and the spectacular show the hosting country puts on! It makes me happy.
I’m obviously continuing this with my own daughters but this time I’m putting my own “torch” in it.
Staying home with my girls gives me the opportunity to do fun things with them. One of them being crafts. It’s the creative engineer in me, putting things together and making them pretty. A maker of pretty things, if you will.
Here’s how I made ours and you’ll be surprised you have most of these supplies in your home! If not, you can always make an impromptu trip to Michaels!
What you need:
- Paper towel tube
- Foil
- 2 pieces of yellow/orange/red tissue paper
- Paper plate (smaller the better)
- Tape
- Scissors
- Cut out a hole in the middle of the paper plate. Big enough to place your paper towel tube through. Cut the outer edges of the plate, if needed.
- Place one tissue inside the tube. Cut a hole in the middle of the other tissue and insert the paper towel tube from the bottom.
- Next, tape the tissue paper to the tube to stabilize.
- Fluff both tissue paper together so it resembles a flame. Use tape if needed to get the look you’d like.
- Finally, wrap the foil around the tube.
Now you can officially say…Let the Games Begin!
How are you celebrating with your family?
