The moment both my daughters were placed on my chest are moments when I wish time stood still. Their little bodies warming up against mine, big cries, and little hands that can only wrap around my finger. And their hats were the icing on the cake. A tiny accessory but something so small that solidified their transition earth side.
I kept both their hats because it holds a memory that only I know. A time that only I and my husband can remember. It symbolizes the second I gave birth and became a mom. Something so precious and blessed to have done safely, twice.
I also kept their cord clamp that signified their independence from me and their name band. Two insignificant but significant things that marked their entrance into the world.
So I encourage all moms to keep their baby’s first hat, their umbilical cord clamp, and their newborn ID tag and place them in an ornament. These are special little things that shouldn’t be kept hidden away, but displayed.
Read below on how to make one for your own.
Materials:
Clear ornament
Ornament hooks
Tweezer
A spreader knife
Baby hat
Cord clamp
ID band
How to
- Remove the head of the ornament to insert all moments.
- Use either the tweezer or spreader knife to push the hat in. It’ll be tricky, so use what you can to stuff the hat inside.
- Next, insert the cord clamp and ID band inside. Use the tweezer to adjust the name as needed.
- Finally, put the head back on and place an ornament hanger to decorate your tree!
I hope this inspires you to make your own and start a tradition for all your kids or for someone you know with children.
These are my favorite ornaments to take out every holiday season.
